Strategic Planning Process






Pivotal’s strategic planning process empowers executives by providing deep insight into the internal and external challenges and opportunities facing their company. Our process begins with background research to develop a holistic overview. This is customized based on each company’s needs and may include:

  • Visioning session with executives and key staff to encourage collaboration and team building; and establish “top of mind” issues and concerns;
  • Review of company financials, marketing, business development, internal and external communication, operations, and existing business plan;
  • Internal surveys to receive broad feedback from all employees;
  • Business performance surveys for key staff and executives;
  • Competitive and market analysis of existing and potential markets;
  • External surveys for clients, ex-clients, prospective clients, and associated companies; and
  • Executive and key staff interviews for in-depth discussions of issues identified.

Upon completion of the above, a report summarizing the information gathered and highlighting internal and external areas of importance is provided to the executive team before the strategic planning retreat facilitation. During the strategic planning retreats, Pivotal utilizes methods to overcome internal politics and communication issues, gain consensus, and ensure productivity to accomplish the following:

  • Develop a vision for the future;
  • Address the internal challenges faced;
  • Evaluate organic and external growth opportunities;

Subsequently, our extensive operational experience enables us to develop an implementation plan to drive key strategies; evaluate the implications of various options; and clearly define actions and expectations across the organization. Pivotal will provide intensive support to ensure success such as project management of strategies and tasks; development of key performance and decision making metrics; quarterly executive management updates and adjustments; and additional competitive and market analysis.
